Giving your Pancake Recipe a Twist

Making pancakes brings back a lot of childhood memories. This is more than enough to give me the jumpstart I need for the day when my dad would announce that we are going to have pancakes for breakfast. It is very easy to find a pancake recipe. There are a number of simple pancake recipe that you should be able to find online alone. I know you can find a number of boxed pre made mix that you can immediately make at home. If you ask me, nothing still beats a homemade pancake recipe.

There are a number of things you can do with a pancake recipe. You can actually have this as a foundation for your favorite breakfast delight. Your imagination is going to be your limit. You have a number of ways to go once you are able to get the hang of the easy pancake recipe that you find. You can eventually make a number of variations when you go about serving your pancakes. After cooking your pancakes, you can deviate from the usual maple syrup and butter that has been used and abused but well loved by all. Fruits

You can go and make your breakfast healthier with the addition of fruits in your pancake recipe. If you are trying out the recipe the first time you can include the fruits when you plate up your breakfast. You can use bananas, different berries, mangoes or anything that you can think of. Once you are able to master the pancake recipe, you can then chop up the fruits and include it in the batter. You just have to be careful with the way you cook it because you do not want to overcook the fruits.

Nuts

This may come as a problem for those who have allergies. If you love different kinds of nuts you can definitely make use of these to give your pancakes a different twist. You can use peanuts, cashews, pistachios or anything that you like. This will definitely add texture to your pancakes. You can have that extra crunch when you are eating and it will also go well with your maple syrup.

Zest

This is just basically peels or oranges or lemons. This is just perfect since you will most probably have oranges or lemons around for the juice in the morning. You can actually do something with that peel. You can run that on the grate and immediately you will have the zest to mix in with your batter. You can also save the zest and blanch them with water and sugar and you can add them to the pancakes as you plate them up.

Meats

For a complete breakfast, you may need additional protein. You can go ahead and choose from a number of different treated meats that would go with your pancakes. A pancake recipe is not complete if you do not have protein. You can go for bacon, pancetta, sausages or actually anything that tickles your fancy.

 

Spices

Do not forget spices that can really add a kick to your pancake recipe. You can go for some cinnamon or some vanilla to add some aroma and taste to your breakfast. You can immediately drop them into your batter and mix them in before frying or you can do it after you have finished frying.

Perfect Pancakes

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp fine salt
  • Combine the dry ingredients in a bowl, whisk, set aside
  • Combine the wet ingredients in a second bowl, whisk
  • Add the wet ingredients to the dry and whisk until just combined
  • Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium high heat. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 1/4 cup for each pancake. Brown on both sides and serve hot
