A Different Look at Oatmeal Cookies Recipe

Cookies are always such a treat for both kids and adults alike. There are tons of recipes that you can play around with and I am sure it will be a hit. One all time favorite of mine is oatmeal. It is easy to find an oatmeal cookies recipe. There are a lot of variations that can also be done to this type of cookie. The plain one is definitely a treat for me already. There are a number of cookies out there but oatmeal cookies have a very distinct texture that you are really going to enjoy on a cookie. The chewiness and the sweetness are just right and it works with milk.

One other famous variation of this type of cookie is chocolate chip oatmeal cookies. This is needless to say a must for the kids. This is a definite treat but it does not take a special step from the original recipe to make. This type of cookie is really versatile. The foundation of the oatmeal cookies recipe is pretty much perfected but it is still quite open for different variations afterwards.

Oatmeal cookies are already considered healthy if you think about it but you can also go for variations that would adjust to what you want in a cookie. You can definitely use this as a base for other treats that would make this type of cookie your very own. Chocolate

As already mentioned above, there is no complicated additional step that has to be made to introduce chocolate into your cookie. You can use chocolate chips and mix it into the batter. This way you will have tiny chips of chocolate that would be there in every bite that you make. You can also melt the chocolate and mix it into the batter and you will have gorgeous brown cookies that has additional aroma because of the chocolate. It is up to you if you want to use dark, premium or white. You can still make this a healthy chocolate chip oatmeal cookie by controlling the sugar or using a chocolate with lower sugar content. Do not forget that each type has different texture and it will affect the overall structure of your cookie.

Raisins

This is the healthier variation of the oatmeal cookies recipe. The oatmeal raisin cookies can be a surefire hit for the more matured. Although it may have the same base but this time you can add sliced raisins (depending on the size of the cookie) into the batter and you will have that slight change in taste and texture. If you want to be a bit more subtle you can control the number of raisins on each cookie.

Nuts

There are a number of nuts that you can use to add a different texture or chewiness of the cookie. You have the range of nuts from peanuts, cashews, almonds and a lot more to choose from. You can add them whole or chopped depending on your preference.

This type of twist in the oatmeal cookies recipe is basically a serving suggestion already. After you bake the cookies you can set the cookie on a small plate and top it off with whip cream or ice cream and pour some hot fudge on it and you are good to go.

Oatmeal Cookies

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 3 cups quick cooking oats

  1. Take a large bowl and cream butter, white sugar and brown sugar together. Beat the eggs in a separate bowl and add them to creamed ingredients, stir in vanilla.
  2. Combine all the dry items into the creamed mixture, stir well until it’s all mixed. Cover and let it chill 45 minutes.
  3. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F, grease a cookie sheet, roll dough into clumps the size of walnuts, place 2 inches apart and flatten them.
  4. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes
